Deep Play Workshops for The Performer

Deep Play “…is profoundly absorbing…
it proceeds within limits of time and space….
is outside the sphere of necessity…
is sacred or festive, according to the occasion.
Exaltation and tension accompany the action.”
-John Huizinga

The Elegant Pedestrian In Performance
By learning to slow down, we enliven our responses to the stories that space inherently holds, cutting through obstacles that cloud our direct perception of the current moment, showing us a path to manifesting spacious, confident and balanced improvisational performance.

Finding Foundation
Using the Four Postures of Mindfulness as a source for dance improvisation. Yielding to deep play, we evoke our individual kinesthetic delight with an awareness of the group.

The Red Square
Investigating compositional practices. Begin with seeing yourself in the space, evolve to engaging with props as allies.

Taming The Discursive Body
with Stillness, Slow Motion and Repetition to make solos on-the-spot. (pre-requisite of Finding Foundation required).

Solos and Swarms
Support for making ensemble creation. Disciplines of fearless solos and surrendering to group influence through species work of the flock, herd and swarm. (pre-requisite of Finding Foundation and Taming the Discursive Body required).
